The North Darfur government renews its strong condemnation and denunciation of the continued bombardment of civilians in Fasher by the Al-Daqlo militia.

Fasher, August 28, 2024 (SUNA) – The Government of North Darfur State has renewed its strong condemnation and denunciation of the barbaric and savage behavior of the terrorist and rebellious Al-Daqlo militia against unarmed civilians in the city of Fasher. This behavior includes ongoing daily bombardments over the past three months with heavy artillery and drones, targeting residential neighborhoods, displaced persons' camps, and civilian sites. The latest attack occurred yesterday, Monday, when the militia's bombardment of the Abu Shouk camp market resulted in the deaths of 15 displaced persons and injuries to dozens more.

The condemnation statement from the state government today highlighted that the attack on the Abu Shouk market was not the first of its kind, as similar attacks had occurred previously, extending to other markets in the city, hospitals, residential areas, humanitarian organization offices, and drug storage facilities. Additionally, recent attacks included the bombing of Fasher Girls' Secondary School, the Scientific Library, the Peace Studies Center at the Omdurman Islamic University branch, and the South Sahara Private University College, among other service institutions.

The statement emphasized that these actions by the militia aim to forcefully displace civilians. It stressed that the direct targeting of civilians in their homes, assets, and service centers by the rebellious Al-Daqlo militia reflects their continued violations of human rights and international humanitarian laws, calling on relevant international bodies to act immediately to halt these violations. The statement also condemned the positions of the entities supporting and sponsoring the militia, which facilitate the displacement of civilians and aim to fragment Sudan to seize its resources.

The statement affirmed the support of the state government and its citizens for the armed forces, joint forces, and the security and intelligence service in their courageous efforts against the militia, expressing hope for a decisive victory soon. It praised the struggles and sacrifices of these forces in preserving the nation's dignity and pride, and commended the resilience of the state's citizens, especially in Fasher, for enduring the militia's violations. It also honored the martyrs of the war for dignity in Sudan, wished a swift and full recovery for the injured, and hoped for the safe return of the missing.
