Sudan News Agency

Introduction
The emergence of news agencies in Sudan began in the mid-1950s when a Reuters office was established in Khartoum. In the 1960s, Sudan saw the creation of several private news agencies. In the early 1960s, the African News Agency was founded, followed by the establishment of Khartoum News Agency, Local News Agency, New Africa News Agency, and Sudan News Agency by its founder, Abdel Karim Mahdi.
The emergence of these agencies was a natural result of the need to create national media institutions that express the reality of Sudan with a purely national vision. They aimed to introduce Sudan to the world, reflect its aspirations and culture, reduce Western media influence on Sudan, limit interference in its internal affairs, and present positive images of Sudan abroad.
Since its inception, the Sudan News Agency (SUNA) has witnessed different decades of Sudan's political, economic, social, and cultural history. SUNA has documented this vast heritage with all its positives and negatives, leaving behind an enormous legacy of documenting public life in Sudan over its 37 years of existence.
Like other public institutions, SUNA has provided its services directly to the public or through other media outlets to disseminate social information aimed at the development and advancement of society.
SUNA serves as the lifeline for most domestic and international media channels, providing services based on its understanding of its responsibility to support national issues and the independence of national decision-making.
As a national media institution, the Sudan News Agency has contributed to raising awareness and promoting higher national values and principles among the Sudanese public through purposeful media messages. It continues to play its leading role with high transparency and professionalism, as acknowledged by most regional and international news agencies, due to its provision of diverse and distinguished media and news services that keep its audience well-informed.
Throughout its long journey, SUNA has kept pace with various communication technologies and continually updated its equipment to provide high-quality service. It has been a pioneer in introducing many media and communication technologies as the first media institution in Sudan and has also achieved journalistic exclusives many times.
